Good day to all!
In the current scenario, parenting is getting tougher day by day. The bigger
joint family concept has shrunk into a small and nuclear family. Parents aren’t
able to devote their full time in their child’s upbringing. Financial needs and
maintaining status quo is the pressure they are faced with and also their
choice.
It has become rare where a child is brought up under the proper guidance of
the elder generation. Amidst several tough circumstances, parents are
burdened and hold the responsibility to bring up their children as a good
human being and a best citizen. While there are several distractions that
contribute towards the derailment of a child, I see media – very specifically the
movies from a point of view that is important to note and yet has missed the
sight of many. In general, movies are one of the most powerful tools in mass
media to create a huge impact. Having said that, we cannot ignore the fact that
movies do impact children even more adversely.

Boy watching television and girl using digital tablet in living room at home

It is painful yet factual to realise that movies of current generation in Tamil
language or for that matter movies of any of the Indian languages, have led to
negative and destructive consequences. I would discuss this further in detail
separately.
In this article, I wish to throw light on songs with hidden absurd meaning and
disgusting language being used in the movies.
First of all, even making such songs and scenes is wrong and non-agreeable.
In spite of that,
1. We can begin our first step to curb the damage – the telecast of such
songs during the prime time should be banned. In addition, all of the
obscene comedy clips, songs and indecent dialogues should be banned
from Television shows, daily soap, advertisements, FM channels and all
means of media.

2. While we make conscious choices for our children in terms of what they
watch, what they listen to, any moron has zero rights and eligibility to spoil
our children that too in our living room.
3. Most importantly, when schools organize their annual day and sports
day functions, they should completely avoid and ban the choice of such
filthy songs or figurative obscene words for dance performance or any other
entertainment events. It is even worse to realise when the teachers
themselves train and encourage the students to perform.
4. It is inevitable to ban all such songs in common programmes and
events. If such programmes are telecasted much later in the night, it might
help reduce the adverse effect.
Many well-known heroes, directors and all other technicians who earn way
beyond what they are worthy of and lead a parasitic life in this society, may
actually avoid or minimise their contribution to such songs or scenes or filthy
dialogues and begin their journey of repentance and resurgence. They may
choose to transform into a responsible citizen.

The real power of the mass media should be used properly by all means and
in all sense.
Postscript: A detailed analysis/writings can be produced about usage of
Smartphones and online activities and exchange of information. With the belief
that you all will be categorically cautious about its usage, I would take your
leave for now.
Yours Prahaa

  1. Nice write. I believe the message is strong and clear. Parents have a big role to play in the child’s upbringing. Educating children about our culture and what is the real NEED time and again and demonstrating by doing can probably help.
There is much less of control on an outsider until the change is from within.
It can be tough to do as the society is large and huge. Yet to try will make some difference.

    • Thank you so much for the right understanding. True that the change should start from us and from the home and also if schools are cognizant about these angles than it would be of great help to create a responsible society!
